Week 28
|
Vactions Sandstorms turn the sky orange, replacing the smoke from burning trash with gritty air that coats your eyes and lungs. Breathing is just one of the many great new experiences I have had here that will probably lead to cancer in the near future. My buddy has some pictures here: http://willtoexist.com/2006/05/sandstorm-over-baghdad I've been adding photos to my site off an on for the past few weeks, so if you haven't check lately there are a bunch more. The heat has come, but fortunately we have air conditioners all over the place. The biggest hardship I have faced is staying up until 4 a.m. on nights when the Red Sox are on AFN. I have even watched some American Idol and am steadfast in my support for Katharine Mcphee now that the blonde chick is out. What a great vacation this is becoming. Actually, the only reason why I am so upbeat about the living conditions is because I am going on a true vacation is a week. No more sweating, sand or explosions. No more Peruvian and Georgian guards and no more Iraqi Soldiers and Police. Just me… and a bunch of Italians. More people who I won't be able to understand. At least they have hot tubs. The only thing raining on my parade right now is that someone blew up the water lines. It upsets me, not because I like to take showers, but because they closed the little pizza place I go to on my day off. The inhumanity here is sickening. This war is not officially out of control. Bring us home now! In all seriousness, things do seem better here. There were a few hairy months after the mosque bombing in Samara, but a lot has calmed down and most the violence is happing in Baghdad and a few other cities. Besides, they kill each other more than they mess with us. I think it is because they are scared of me. Be good all. I am off to Rome . One empire to another. Viva America ! |
