Week 8
Smirk my friend, Smirk. |
The helicopters touched downed, a half dozen of them, from places all around the country. They carried very important people. I am not very important, but I found myself in one of them. A guy from Fox News on my right and a lady from the NY Times on my left, strapped in for the flight. We had just left Baghdad where we met with the U.S. Ambassador, Iraqi's president and a cast of dignitaries, and now Dick Cheney and I were heading out to Al Anbar, also known as the desert. Hundreds gathered to greet me and Dick. “Hello, my faithful Soldiers,” I said. “The war is going well. We have won. Pack your bags, we are going home.” All the men cheered, while the women cried happy tears. Then Cheney took the podium. “About that…” he mumbled. “You're not going anywhere.” --- I got a chance to follow the Vice President around for a day during his big tour of the Middle East . It was a good time. And while I didn't get to speak, I did take a lot of pictures of the smirking leader. My favorite line from the entire day was when Prime Minister Jaafri, through a translator, said, “I am glad you could come here and see the fruits of your effort.” It just seemed a little odd to me. --- I have updated a few more photos. Most of the photos are taken at night because that is the only time I can get out. We are having a Christmas party here soon, and it should be a lot of fun. Thanks to all of you, I have more presents, cards and treats than a Soldier really needs. I hope you all have a merry Christmas. Hopefully, you will be able to enjoy this festive time of year without me. If not, I will email you a picture of myself to keep you company. I will be taking part in the Murphy swap. Fear me.
